Whether you prefer cotton flannel or oh-so-soft cotton gauze, here are five sleepwear styles to keep you cozy all winter long
Did you hear that Punxsutawney Phil—that infamous groundhog of the Bill Murray movie—saw his shadow earlier this month, meaning six more weeks of winter ahead? And while we wouldn’t call ourselves superstitious, the news definitely confirmed what we were already afraid of.
That said, while we are definitely dreaming of warm-weather vacations and beachy weather, the silver lining of winter is cozy nights in. If you needed a reason to not be social and choose to stay in with a hot pot of stew, cup of tea or glass of wine in front of the fire, cold weather is definitely it. From cotton flannel sleepwear to cozy double gauze cotton, here are five sleepwear styles that will keep you as snug as a bug in a rug for the rest of winter.
Our Green Check Flannel is always a fast seller whenever we introduce it, and combined with our Full Length nightshirt silhouette, this style is a favourite of both the brand and our loyal customers. It’s both elegant and cozy—the perfect style for a full winter’s day, whether you spend it pottering around the house, watching movies, or baking cookies with family or friends. Made from a soft, medium weight cotton flannel, it features a green check on a black background.
The Green Check Flannel also comes in our classic Long Sleep Shirt.
The Sleep Shirt is proud to be a Canadian brand—and is there anything more Canadian than red buffalo check? This particular cotton flannel is especially popular with our Canadian customers, and we think it’s because it feels quintessentially patriotic. Here, it features on our Short Sleeve Cropped Shirt and Slash Pocket Pant, a pyjama set that’s both classic and contemporary, thanks to the dropped shoulder on the top and the slimmer, tapered leg on the bottoms. And did we mention the pants have pockets?!
Looking for something new? The Red Buffalo Check also comes in our Unisex Robe, a style we introduced last year.
We’d be remiss if we didn’t mention the first nightshirt shape we ever created back in 2012, the Short and Long Sleep Shirt. Based on a vintage men’s chemise, this style has been a bestseller ever since, and we can confirm a thousand times over that it’s the perfect piece if you plan on spending as much of winter as you can in bed—and maybe on the sofa. This version from our Resort 2022 collection is made from a super soft cotton flannel woven in Portugal and features shades of black, off white, and raspberry red for a slightly more graphic, bold take on our classic, cozy cotton flannel.

One of the favourite fabrics of the The Sleep Shirt team, our double gauze cotton has a slightly spongy feel that we imagine is what it must be like to be wrapped up in a soft, cozy muslin. First introduced in Resort 2020, it’s a lightweight fabric that’s also warm, like the ultimate luxury duvet. This season, we launched it in black, a classic shade that really emphasizes the versatility of the shape: this is definitely a piece you can wear while working from home.
The Sleep Shirt in White Double Gauze also comes in several colours here.
The Lounge Pant was the very first pyjama pant we released, and it remains a best seller every year. Here, we’ve combined it with our new, button-down Long Sleeve Shirt in a deep, rich shade of blue to create a classic set you'll wear for years to come. Both pieces work well as separates—the top has a slightly flared body and we definitely think you can get away with wearing it for video calls—but are also super warm and cozy for the coldest winter nights.
The Dark Blue Flannel is also available in the Full Length Sleep Shirt.
If you’re a snowbird and have escaped the winter for warmer climes, well, lucky you: we’re super jealous. Please don’t mind us if we unfollow you—we can’t handle your beach and Aperol Spritz posts while we shiver away during these last few months of winter. (Just kidding; that’s just our jealousy talking.)
If you’re looking for sleepwear that works for your particular situation (or perhaps you’re just a hot sleeper all year round), consider our Long Two-Pocket Sleep Shirt, a new style launched for Spring 2022. We previously released a short version of this nightshirt, and it was so popular that a longer version with dramatic side slits was a no-brainer.
