5 Lightweight Nighties to Wear All Season

After years of pent-up summers, we're praying for a long, glorious season – preferably one that extends well into September.
And when it comes to sleepwear and loungewear, if there’s anything the past year has taught us, it’s about versatility and comfort. More than ever before, we’re looking for pieces that do double and triple duty: as nightwear, around-the-house wear, and working-from-home wear. Here are the five cotton nighties you’ll find us wearing on repeat.
1) THE FLARED SLEEP SHIRT
The Flared Sleep Shirt in White Beach Stripe is an elegant shape we've brought back, and it falls just below the knee, with 3/4 sleeves, side pockets and a high-low hem for added feminine flare (which, of course, also gives the nightie its name). These details make this style a sweet choice as either a warm-weather nightgown or even as a dress for a low-key garden party. We especially love it in this breezy white beach stripe.
2) THE POCKET KAFTAN
The Pocket Kaftan is the piece that our founder, Alexandra, coveted the most – and since its arrival, she’s been wearing it while working from home, while hanging around on the weekend with her kids, and will soon be wearing it to lounge around her new (very exciting!) pool. She owns it in Black Linen, which is super versatile.
If you’re already a fan of our popular Oversized Kaftan, you might like the Pocket Kaftan: it’s slightly shorter for summer, and, true to its name, has handy pockets.
3) THE SLEEVELESS NIGHTIE
We first created this style in 2013 – just one year after The Sleep Shirt was founded – and it’s been a bestseller ever since. The reason? Like us, there are plenty of you out there who want a simple cotton nightie that’s not overtly sexy, sheer, or makes you feel silly.
The Sleeveless Nightie is the epitome of contemporary sleepwear: it’s a classic style that’s not too revealing yet doesn’t make you feel like a granny, and it really looks great on everyone. It’s also one of our coolest nightshirts, making it ideal for summer (or all year round, if you’re a hot sleeper – you know who you are).
4) THE LONG SLIP DRESS
We first introduced this slip dress for Resort 2021 and have loved seeing how our customers have been styling it. It looks great layered over a T-shirt or under a cardigan, or worn on its own on those hottest days of summer. It’s a simple, elegant style, cut on the bias to skim the body, with a slight high-low hem and adjustable straps for a better fit.
We've never offered a Tencel blend before, but we couldn't resist this gorgeous, smooth twill that hangs beautifully off the body. It also comes in White Linen and Black Linen – and for Pre Fall 2022, now comes in a shorter length, too.
5) THE SHORT ROPE NECK DRESS
You know that we’re fans of blue and pink – our Blue Oxford Stripe and Pink Oxford Stripe are classics and are always available – so we couldn't resist offering this season's key dress, this Rope Neck Dress, in this sweet pink linen blend.
With its empire waist and silky cotton rope straps that tie at the neck, this dress looks great around the house or out on a balmy weekend doing errands. The pockets mean you never have to be far from your phone or lip balm. It’s a sweet style for an endless summer, whether you're at home or away.
