Founder's Letter Spring 2022

The design process of a new season typically starts with a research image that sets the tone for the collection, but for Spring 2022, it all began in a fabric appointment. I was meeting with one of our suppliers, and the agent was showing me the new season linens. She brought out a large-scale leopard print linen and said, “This probably isn’t your style.” My immediate thought was, “This is definitely our style.”

After that, inspiration, styles and ideas for the collection flowed. We wanted to add some more beautiful linens to the collection, so we added a rich strawberry red, a pretty iris colour, a blue pinstripe, and a blue plaid linen alongside our classic black, white, and sand linens. I felt strongly that the leopard print needed to be made into a fabulous kaftan, so we opted for a dramatic One Shoulder Kaftan, which is probably the most fashion-forward piece we’ve ever included in a collection. Sure, it may not seem like an obvious loungewear style, but its comfortable neckline and elastic back mean it is easy to relax in. I also just love the idea of a linen kaftan being both glamorous and comfortable.

The Flounce Dress is the style I’ll be wearing most. It is a re-design of a tunic we made many years ago, which I’ve been wearing non-stop in the summers ever since. That tunic needed a few tweaks to the design, so we’ve improved this style and we now have a fun, feminine dress or nightie for the summer.

We’re never ones to shy away from recycling old designs, so this Spring 2022, we’ve also restocked two favourites in new and classic fabrics: the Ankle Length Sleep Shirt and the Pocket Nightie. This long, slim nightshirt and cute babydoll nightie both double as ready-to-wear and are great pieces to pack on your next warm-weather trip.

Speaking of old designs, the Cuffed Sleeve Shirt is now available in black linen and a seasonal blue plaid linen. This shirt is more than a pyjama top: it’s a stylish, easy-to-wear piece that works equally well in heavy cottons as it does lightweight linens. I was wearing mine last week with a wool skirt and a sweater, since it wasn’t quite spring weather yet.

But it will be soon.
