The Sleep Shirt Launches a New Line of Ethically Made T-Shirts

Ethically-made t-shirts for women

We are pleased to announce the launch of our t-shirt collection, featuring four modern shapes designed to be wardrobe essentials. The new stretch t-shirts will work in tandem with our loungewear and complement everyday outfits. Following a successful crowdfunding campaign through I Fund Women, the offering will be ethically made in Vancouver, Canada from high-quality fabrics sourced from Canadian suppliers.

The t-shirt collection has been in development for several years after the concept was born following an extensive customer survey and interviews with retailers and buyers. Our team spent a lot of time on market research and competitive analysis in order to discover what was lacking in the market. After evaluating the initial research, we began designing, creating samples, conducting fittings on an array of women, and organizing rigorous product testing to create the ideal t-shirt made in a quality fabric.

The stretch t-shirt you've been searching for

The final product is a capsule collection of t-shirts based on the needs of our customer and the gaps in the market. The upcoming t-shirt collection will consist of a size-inclusive range of tops made from a cotton-modal blend fabric that is smooth, soft and not sheer. The shapes include classic necklines and hip-length hems, made from a stretch jersey whose weight prevents it from clinging to the body in unflattering ways. Like all our sleepwear, the t-shirts will be ethically made in Canada with a competitive price point for a luxurious, long-lasting product.

The classic shape in the collection is the Short Sleeve Crew Neck T-Shirt. Designed to fit slimly at the bust with a flared body, with a high low curved hemline that's long enough at the back to fall below the hips. In addition to the Crew Neck, this classic bodice shape is available in two v-neck alternatives, one with short sleeves, and one with long sleeves. The women's long sleeve t-shirt was a must-have for a winter launch. These shapes all feature the same fit and length, designed to be flattering and practical. The final shape in the collection is the Boat Neck T-Shirt, featuring a boat neckline and a three- quarter sleeve. This tunic shirt was designed to fit looser in the body with a slightly roomier silhouette and a straight hem. As per the customer’s requests, trims are kept simple by focusing on clean, classic finishes on the hems and neckline.

One of the biggest challenges in developing this collection was the sourcing of the fabric. After extensive fabric research, sampling, and wear tests, our team selected a soft stretch jersey, made from a blend of cotton, modal, and spandex that feels luxurious, flatters the figure, and stands up to our rigorous wash tests. Available in white, black, and a dark blue, the simple colour palette was chosen to work with all women’s wardrobes.

Versatility is key in the collection, which is why the t-shirts are all designed to be worn in a multitude of situations. They work equally as well with jeans or under a cardigan as they do with a blazer or paired with a skirt. And of course, the pieces are made to work with our loungewear.

The collection will be available in sizes extra small to double extra large, with the aim to offer larger sizing in the near future as well as the expansion on shapes and colourways. Priced accessibly for a luxury brand, the pieces sell for 82-92 Canadian dollars. Made ethically in Canada with fabric sourced from a local supplier, this stretch t-shirt collection is an exciting new product line we can't wait to share with our customers.
